3D Assigment! Temple..

Today we Were task with modelling of the temple form the photo on the left.

We were given 2 basic textures for the walls and the roof top which will help with texturing of the building.

I started with measuring the size of the building by making the pillars on the side and matching the distance between them by eye.

This is the progress I made in the 3 hours. I feel like there were more optimal ways of doing the rooftops and windows.

Proportions

Today in class we were shown how to measure the size of a character by looking at the proportions of their heads to the bodies.

Our task was to make a Dwarf (3 heads in size)
and elf (9 heads in size).

It made me think on the size of the characters, as before I didn't pay much attention to it.

I feel like the characters I made were good in proportions.

Life Drawing Values..

This session we focused mostly on the values of the model.
I pushed the values to extremes to see how the values were distributed along the body.

^ I need to work on my values and this kind of gave me an idea on how to go about it...

Armoured Vehicles

I approached this task in a different way...

Before making a mood board I drew how I imagined the armoured vehicles would look like.

< to keep the perspective fairly correct I copied over the composition of the first tank I drew and working around it to make more interesting designs.

After I was satisfied with my out comes I looked at real life armoured vehicles and some concepts by other artists.

For my next ideas drawings I'm gone extend and improve the 9 initial ideas and cut them down to 3, and use reference from real life tanks on how to detail out the futuristic armour.

From my first 3 drawings I picked 3 that I liked the most. I added values and details that will help me decide on my final outcome for an armoured vehicle.

I anticipate that allot of people gone do a tank/hover tank, which is why I will go with my first design. "Self Propelled Gun".

Rigging and Animating "The Turret"

We learned today how to rig and animate the turret we worked with previously.

I'm looking forward to working with character rigging and animation as it sounded interesting.

Values Practice!

Today we went over applying of values to make an object look 3D..

The values is the area I actually need to improve on as they help to bring 3D from into the drawing.

LifeDrawing ... Portrait ssss

Life Drawing...

Today we focused more on parts of the body rather than the body's as a whole as we did in previous Life Drawing sessions.

I could work more on the shadowing on the body which helps to improve my values when it comes to skin, as I find it difficult to match the values when I draw from Imagination.

Insectoids! xD

Insectoids, 2 week Uni assignment!

I really enjoy working on character design which makes this exciting for me xD.

First I created a mood board about insects...
Yea... xD
It helped me figure out the approach I can take with human like insect forms.

Insects parts of the body are fundamentally  different in the way their bodies join together.
This means that to make the Insectoid character
I need to look how to change the human body connects.

For the first part of the design I want to find a form I would like to work to the end.

Here everything is rough... I just want to get the proportions of the character down and create an
interesting silhouette.

Each sketch took about 30 seconds... pretty much doodling xD...

Kinda run out of space on the previous canvas xD so I moved on to the next one...

On the first one I already had some good Ideas with context... but I still wanted to explore more.

Out of the initial Ideas I picked out 3 that I liked the most :D

I blocked in their shape so I can just work around it to create a gray-scale painting..

I will pick out 1 of them and add colour to it as well as orthographic views of front side and back.
...
...
I decided to develop the one on the left as my final character design.

Concept Art - Runic Valley

Inspired by Feng Zhu style of painting.

Still far from being good...

First I drew a Line art to make sure the composition of the painting is correct and that I like the overall feel of the scene.

I then painted over the line drawing fixing the perspective. and adding more details that were not on the line drawing.

I also added a village between the fore ground and background to improve the scale comparison between the objects.

Final Piece: After the initial painting I just went and detailed out the whole scene focusing on the values of the piece.

1 Point Perspective

I'm used to basic perspective grids, I look allot through Scott Robertson's book How to Draw book.

I decided to expand the task by exploring what kind of one perspective I want to make..

I decided to go with the village over canyon as its one of the easier pieces to do one point perspective on as the canyon can go beyond the horizon.

I added colour to help establish where the rocks point to.

My Game Level

This is the first part of the level for my "Game"
Plan:
-Main character starts of in the accommodation.
- When he leaves the accommodation after 5 sec alarm triggers which locks down the area.
- Main character doesn't want to just stand still and wait for explanation so he decides to look for a way around the lock down
- Finds the hatch
-Walks down the ladder
-Jumps over obstacles
- Picks up a Wrench
-Proceeds towards end of the level
-Hears a conversation through a ventilation shaft
-Proceeds to the exit.

More Detailed Map of the level:

Video of the Level:
(the objects placed are just representations of objects that would go in to those positions )

Small differences from the initial plan regarding the layout and size of certain objects
and rooms. As I wanted the house of the character to feel really cramped/small , to signify
that he lives in the poor part of the station.

Halloween ! Monster !

The theme for this weeks design is Monster,
as Halloween is near.

<<<<<<  MONSTERS!

I didn't know where to start with the monster.
One of the things that I had in mind was that
it should be humanoid.

So it begun...
<<<<

I really liked the feel of the Wraith like female
monster, so I decided to develop it further by
joining the two female sketches into a final
outcome.
After the optional session with Jack Eaves I decided to work more over my final
presentation of the Wraith and remove most of the line art. The final result:
