Personal Work Environment

I worked on my painting techniques using textures in this exercise and assigning
depth in to the environment so that the values are showing well.
I also worked on my sketches.

I feel like some of the pictures worked well and some didn't value and composition wise.
I found that scenes that are lighter in colour are harder to get the values right.

Paint Over Techniques :D

Today we went over paint over techniques.
I found it pretty helpful as it also shows me the way of
applying texture to objects and fixing their perspective.
After applying the textures to a hard surface object we went to applying
textures to an organic object; a vampire.
I think the paint over that I applied didn't deviate to much from the
original model, and it added some interesting elements to the design of the vampire

Lava Monster. Follow Up

For this week we were assigned to do a Lava monster of our own
rather than painting over an existing one. I didn't want to be influenced by
any concept art I decided to not have any research before hand.
I went straight in to the design of my lava monster.
After I had my 3 designs sketched out I started to look at the colour
schemes I could use for my Monster.
I picked few different ones from the texture of rocks.
I would think that lava monster would be made out of mostly rocks.
That is why I focused on a rocky design.
I then applied the different colour schemes to the 3 designs I had.
I finalized my design by adding lava effect to my Rock Monster.
To turn him in to legit Lava Monster.
The Idea behind him is that his a fire spirit that has lost his
physical form and was forced to create a body out of rock to remain
an existence in the human world.

Design:
The monster joints between floating parts of the body could be better represented.
I could also use some texture to make the monster more realistic looking, as it look a
bit cartoon like.

Lava ! Paint Over ;D

Today in class we learned ho to create lava effect in Photoshop
I think I went a bit over board on the lava monster but it came out
looking pretty well. It might be not clear enough as a concept.

Muscle Studies xD

I done some initial research on muscles how they work and what the differences between female and male bodies are when regarding to muscles.

Lizard :D

Another Feng Zhu related lesson :D
So we Started with one of the Feng Zhu's Examples of Work

We then rendered his drawing with smooth gradients.

After roughly rendering the skin we separated the armour from the body.

The we followed the gradients with textures.

I found that the textures perfectly followed the smooth gradients which makes this work
flow really easy to apply to allot of designs to quickly get high level of detail in your design .

Christmas Break Work 2014 :D

Glider Design :D
I like how the Glider came out. Its probably not practical in the real world,
but could work in fantasy.
The question is how far can I push the designs? so they are not completely
out of this reality/ But do they have to be? Do they have to really on the
physics of real world?

Body Study / Character design
I pushed the curves slightly to show the feminine side of this character.
While posing her in an aggressive stance.
I feel like the upper body is a bit small when compared to the rest of the body
and her face feels flat.
I wanted her to have the look of a fighter from underground.

I noticed most of my Studies up to this point focused on the proportions of the body
so over the Christmas break I decided to look more in to the characters facial
expressions and their face/hair designs. I spent small amount of time on other
details like outfits.

I still looked at how the female and male bodies differ but I also looked at them in
closer detail like face and hair.

Other than bodies I studied composition, to be more specific how would
I place the character in the scene.

I though I done fair enough of studies and I feel like I'm improving bit by bit.

Sketching in Sketch Book.... Learning ....

Sketches I do in my free time.
I feel like my the poses of my characters are more dynamic and I'm slowly
improving on my faces and expressions.

Skeleton Structure Study!

Our H/W for this week was Anatomy - skeleton.

I done some studies of how skeleton structure looks like and how it behave but it was long time ago. going back to it I looked a the differences between female and male skeletons and how they could affect the form.

The most noticeable differences were at the crotch ( pelvis) and Chest (Ribs).

< final orthographic view of a skeleton.

3D Assigment! Temple..

Today we Were task with modelling of the temple form the photo on the left.

We were given 2 basic textures for the walls and the roof top which will help with texturing of the building.

I started with measuring the size of the building by making the pillars on the side and matching the distance between them by eye.

This is the progress I made in the 3 hours. I feel like there were more optimal ways of doing the rooftops and windows.

Proportions

Today in class we were shown how to measure the size of a character by looking at the proportions of their heads to the bodies.

Our task was to make a Dwarf (3 heads in size)
and elf (9 heads in size).

It made me think on the size of the characters, as before I didn't pay much attention to it.

I feel like the characters I made were good in proportions.

Armoured Vehicles

I approached this task in a different way...

Before making a mood board I drew how I imagined the armoured vehicles would look like.

< to keep the perspective fairly correct I copied over the composition of the first tank I drew and working around it to make more interesting designs.

After I was satisfied with my out comes I looked at real life armoured vehicles and some concepts by other artists.

For my next ideas drawings I'm gone extend and improve the 9 initial ideas and cut them down to 3, and use reference from real life tanks on how to detail out the futuristic armour.

From my first 3 drawings I picked 3 that I liked the most. I added values and details that will help me decide on my final outcome for an armoured vehicle.

I anticipate that allot of people gone do a tank/hover tank, which is why I will go with my first design. "Self Propelled Gun".

Rigging and Animating "The Turret"

We learned today how to rig and animate the turret we worked with previously.

I'm looking forward to working with character rigging and animation as it sounded interesting.

Values Practice!

Today we went over applying of values to make an object look 3D..

The values is the area I actually need to improve on as they help to bring 3D from into the drawing.

Insectoids! xD

Insectoids, 2 week Uni assignment!

I really enjoy working on character design which makes this exciting for me xD.

First I created a mood board about insects...
Yea... xD
It helped me figure out the approach I can take with human like insect forms.

Insects parts of the body are fundamentally  different in the way their bodies join together.
This means that to make the Insectoid character
I need to look how to change the human body connects.

For the first part of the design I want to find a form I would like to work to the end.

Here everything is rough... I just want to get the proportions of the character down and create an
interesting silhouette.

Each sketch took about 30 seconds... pretty much doodling xD...

Kinda run out of space on the previous canvas xD so I moved on to the next one...

On the first one I already had some good Ideas with context... but I still wanted to explore more.
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
Out of the initial Ideas I picked out 3 that I liked the most :D

I blocked in their shape so I can just work around it to create a gray-scale painting..

I will pick out 1 of them and add colour to it as well as orthographic views of front side and back.
...
...
I decided to develop the one on the left as my final character design.
